Ptuj is one of the oldest cities in Slovenia and lies in the east-north corner of the country. It is the centre of its region, positioned in the middle of the hills of Slovenske Gorice and Haloze and fields Dravsko polje and Ptujsko polje.
The city lies in the proximity of a regional road Maribor – Zagreb and on the crossroad between Ormož, Slovenska Bistrica, Gornja Radgona and Lenart in Slovenske Gorice. In the nearby village Spuhlja the road leads you toward Croatia and Croatian border, toward Varaždin. There is a highway toward Zagreb going past Ptuj.
